流铁 / Leklai
Leklai is probably one of the most famous sacred substances in Thailand. It is believed that this particular sacred substance can release magic powers in a variety of ways but particularly in helping worshippers from danger and expelling dangerous enemies or animals.
Even today, there are not many people who can actually describe the properties of this sacred substance in much detail. But this has not prevented many powerful and rich businessmen obtaining amulets that supposedly contain leklai.
LEK-LAI (A Magical Metal Amulet)_01
The fact that we cannot see or cannot prove the existence of something does not mean it is not real. Supernatural phenomena such as traces of a naga slithering down some places in the north-eastern provinces or photographs or video tapes that accidentally recorded an image of something like a ghost are what people doubt but cannot utterly deny.
In Thailand there is a substance that cannot be explained by the laws of science. Yet, some people have great faith in this amulet's protective power. It is leklai, which literally means fluid metal.
Moreover, it has been reported on many occasions that individuals have lost their lives in the quest to source this grail of substances, many in deep inaccessible caves hidden in dense jungles.
Some have even suggested that this material is an invention or creation of an over enthusiastic imagination and have demanded to see the power with their own eyes.
How strange it may sound that this material is so rare that there do not appear to be any consistent reports of its appearance or properties. Some say a rare alloy of metals, others say a kind of Thai plant, and others say mercurial in appearance.
One of the more credible theories about Leklai is that it is a kind of substance only obtainable from the air around us. But why you may ask, have I seen images of a mercurial liquid, which is probably the most popular interpretation.
The reason suggested is that the guru monk has sufficient powers to accumulate the gaseous leklai and condense the material into a liquid solid.
In contrast many senior monks have said nothing can be added to leklai, it is a creation of mother nature alone, it is neither reinforced by metal or by spiritiual power.
Old Thai beliefs say that Leklai was a mercurial solid found in deep forests or the mysterious caves, this theory is still supported by some countries such as China and Tibet, who strongly believe in the magic of Leklai, and you will often hear it called “The Heaven Metal”.
According to the Thai dictionary of the Royal Institute, lek-lai is a type of metal said to melt at candle temperature. It is also regarded as a rare magical metal that forms naturally and possesses biological properties.
The legend of lek-lai is described in ancient sacred books as follows. In the time as old as the Atlantis continent, there was an ascetic named Kalaikot, who attained a high state of serenity via meditation. This ascetic caused an element which could become either solid or liquid and could disintegrate or cohere to gather on the wall of the cave where he was inhabiting. Another ascetic, who reached the same level of meditation and whose name was Kassapa did the same thing.
Historically there are reports of the ancient Khmer having created amulets made from this substance which was brought to them by a Tibetan monk.
The Malaysians also believe in Leklai, and they called it “Buesi-Sue-lae” which has the same meaning as the Thai word Leklai. (moving metal)
The eternal belief in the powerful and mysterious leklai has grown throughout Asia for the last 1,000 years.
To illustrate the difficulty in the identification of leklai there are quite literally dozens of different leklai recorded in Thai literature, and here are a few examples:
-Leklai go-thi-phi, is dark green in colour, found only in deep caves or on cliffs. Has lots of manifestation power.
-Leklai jau-pha, is black in colour, shinny, very beautiful, it hides among rocks, has high energy too.
-Leklai yoi, looks like a dead log and located in caves. the length is about 1 foot, the fibre is crispy, has power to protect from harm and danger
-Leklai chii-phra-kaaw, is shinny white like that resembles the skins of a snake, has power to project prosperity, progress, longevity and protection (Invulnerability from weapons).
-Leklai plerng, looks more like brick, brown in colour, glittery. The person who has insufficient merit will not even have the opportunity to approach or find this leklai. This leklai has the power to protect the owner from every kind of danger.
-Leklai nam, looks like rain droplets, the colour is green mixed with black, a little on the dull side. Protective.
-Lekai gorn or koth, this leklai is manifested by nature, Botryoidal in nature, very metallic in nature. This is supposedly the best Leklai.
-Leklai piak, the colour is silver [more to shades of white], looks wet all the time and this leklai has the capability to protect the owner from all spiritual entities.
-Leklai gaen lek, looks like a log, the material consist basically of soil and iron ore. The type that looks like a rock is considered "female". The skin is like fossilised iron. This material is very difficult to collect and it has power in the line of an ascetic practice, full of vital energy to control the nation.
-Leklai lob, is a fantastic species, it is not consider to be in the category of Leklai but it radiates good loving kindness [a powerful metal] it looks like seashells or turtle shell. The colour is green mixed with black.
-Leklai nam-phi, it is a very powerful source of material, has to use mit-moh (Holy knife) to cut this leklai. the colour is a beautiful shining green similar to jade. It has the power to move from one place to another by means of a portal. It will give the owner long life. She likes to be given honey, rain water and raw rice etc...
-Leklai Ler-si, can counteract negativity. This uis said to belong solely to the reusi [hermit].
-Leklai thaa-ret, is from ret mountain , it can be used to cure many things, the most popular version is to make a ring or to make single pendant to wear with a chain. It can protect the owner from harm.
-Leklai nergn-luang, this is white in colour but not silver. A rare beauty, some say that it is called Leklai Ler-si tua mia [female].It has similar power to Leklai reusi.
Creadit to : http://www.thai-amulets.com/leklai2.htm Some way in Thailand found the leklai stone.
Careful, and cautious everyone. The art of extracting Leklai has been known to have been lost upon the death of LP Samrit of Wat Tham Fad. Even his disciple, LP Watchara did not inherit this special skill, so the current stock of Leklai in Wat Tham Fad is what was left over from the era of LP Samrit where he was alive.
Most of the "leklai" we see around are actually not leklai but normal mineral stone, metal.
Even Namphi, it's said that it's not a leklai but some believe it is.
No matter what, having leklai won't assist one in calling 999 when danger appears. Life still will have ups and downs. There will still be office politics, backstabbings, money problems, love problems, and even health problem if the person own a Leklai.
So when it comes to these kind of stuff, treat it scientifically. Don't get too obsessed over it. 4# Brightlight

Thanks for sharing the article that you found too. It's educational.
Yup, you are absolutely right. I initially do not wish to mention the price of hundreds of thousands of Thai bath for a small real leklai. I already know of the price by virtue of my great bro who got a few from LP Samrit at least 2 decades ago when leklai is not so popular.
You are right to say that nobody wants to sell if they really own the real thing. Thus, that's why I said that it's already a great blessing to see one, not to mention own one. So if anyone of us wants to see the real one, go to Wat Thamfad to look at those Case up buchas, leklai etc that they won't sell. Just see will do. Own one doesn't make any difference, it won't make one instant rich.
Whether most of the "so called Leklai" in the market is made of metal or iron, and chanted by monks, that I do not wish to talk too much about it.
Some interesting facts:
1) if one can own a leklai, when it's time to go, it's time to go. You will still live a normal human lifespan at the max.
2) Either you are super rich before you own a leklai, or even if you own a leklai, it doesnt make you instant rich.
3) Please, if you really really really own one leklai by virtue of someone giving it to you, dont feed it with honey. It doesn't work that way. Sigh, marketing stories are so exaggerating because consumers want it that way.
4) Katha? errrrr, not that I am aware of.
5) so how? used for what, or placed where?
Well, you can encase it and wear it, or you can place it on the altar.
6) Having the leklai also won't make one fly, float in the air, etc etc.
And bro, i can say that you are 99% right that nobody can get the leklai easily. The 1% I believe you know the answer. If not, we chat on pm. :) Rainbow Leklai obtained personally from LP Samrit (not me lah, my great bro, and yes, he's old already).

Does your brother feel or met any good luck for this leklai? Bro, the myth is not true. The sad fact is that it is a deceptive apparent truth in that only the very rich seem to be able to own one and so people associate having such a "stone" as being blessed with wealth. That is putting the cart before the horse. It's a question of again, the chicken comes first, or the egg comes first.
This can be said also about the Somdej Toh prized amulets.... If you have the means to buy the leklai of a few '000,000s then are you already wealthy? Of course you are.
I am glad you asked this question, so that I have the chance to write something again to dispel myths. : ) Haha Brother,
I like you answer very much.. I hope more people can read this leklai discussion and let them think.....
Thanks again... Thanks bro rv, your compliments are deeply appreciated by me. I would post some opinions on what are some logical (non-mythical) reasons as to why we collect amulets soon at the appropriate section.
This will enable us to move forward to a more scientific era of logic and sense, as well as more involvement in the teachings of Buddha.
In addition, I would gradually post some leklai pictures. I hope you all will like it. Remember, seeing it is already a blessing (just like seeing the relics at the relics page), don't harbour thoughts of owning it as it will deepen your greed for material things. Thank you for your compliments; this is my bro's leklai. A fascinating piece that is certaintly very rare to find. Nevertheless, what is hard to find? your life (a birth in this lifetime as a human) or a stone? As promised. More pictures to come.
